Hip Hop Since 1987 sat down with Tony DeYoung for an exclusive interview to discuss his journey, his response to criticism, and his impressive accomplishments.

Hip Hop Since 1987: Tony, let’s start with DJ Silk’s comments. How did you feel when you were told your music wasn’t relatable?

Tony DeYoung: Honestly, it fueled my fire. I knew I had something special, and I was determined to prove him wrong.

Hip Hop Since 1987: Fast forward to today, and you’re not just breaking Nielsen Ratings, but shattering them on national television. How does it feel to have proven your doubters wrong?

Tony DeYoung: It’s an incredible feeling. We started on CBS and dominated ratings, and now we’re on Oprah Winfrey Network, dominating ratings 7 years later. My Dr. Phil episode is still getting play every month non-stop.

Hip Hop Since 1987: That’s impressive. You also have over 5 million followers across Facebook groups, and they’re extremely engaged. What do you attribute your massive following to?

Tony DeYoung: I think it’s because I’m unapologetically myself. My fans resonate with my authenticity, and I’ve built a community that’s passionate about my music and message.

Hip Hop Since 1987: You’ve recently become a conversation starter on Facebook, which is an honorary badge. What does this mean to you, and how do you think it reflects your connection with your audience?

Tony DeYoung: It means everything to me. Being a conversation starter on Facebook indicates that my content is resonating with my niche audience, and I’m grateful for that. It’s a testament to the strong bond I’ve built with my fans.

Tony DeYoung: I’d say thank you for the motivation. Your doubts fueled my success, and I’m grateful for that. To anyone who’s ever doubted me, I’d say keep doubting – it only makes me stronger.
