The collaborative album MADE from rappers SUMiT and Termanology originated from a chance conversation during the South by Southwest (SXSW) festival in Austin, Texas. At an afterparty hosted by producer Statik Selektah, the two artists began discussing the competitive nature of hip-hop lyricism. Termanology, known for his extensive collaborations with established rappers, joked that he had “out-rapped” many of his peers in the past. SUMiT responded that such a result would not apply to him, a lighthearted exchange that sparked the idea for a joint project.
Initially, the pair envisioned a short three-song extended play. Shortly after returning from Texas, however, Termanology suggested expanding to five tracks and began sharing beats through email. The collaborative process moved quickly, with SUMiT, Termanology, and engineer D exchanging verses in group chats and completing several tracks within days. The chemistry between the two led to the decision to add additional songs, resulting in a seven-track collection.
The album’s development highlights a key tradition in hip-hop: competition as a means of mutual respect and creative growth. While originating in playful rivalry, MADE evolved into a project reflecting both artists’ dedication to the craft. SUMiT described the process as seamless,
