Live Performance, Red Carpet and “DAT BOI” Vertical Music Video Premiere Highlight an Evening of Music, Film and Culture

R&B, Afrobeat and reggae recording artist Vic G celebrated his latest single, “DAT BOI,” with a red carpet, live performance and premiere of its cinematic vertical music video during The DAT BOI Experience on Tuesday, Aug. 25, at El Cid on Sunset.

The DAT BOI Experience brought together recording artists, entertainers, filmmakers and music industry professionals for an evening connecting live music with visual storytelling. Created by director and producer Zarian “King Z” Hadley, founder of Zakanda Entertainment, the event was presented in collaboration with Green Boy Music.

Red carpet arrivals included Vic G, Mr. Suprize, Zarian Hadley, Lizzy Jeff, Ras Kass, Brandon Miree, Fik-shun (Dushaunt Stegall), Qbwoy, Baby Mahusay, Shawn Cornist, Cheryl K., Roney Boys, PR1ME, Louis Harden, Invinceable and Brooke Ivory, among others.

Vic G took the stage with Jamaican reggae artist Mr. Suprize, accompanied by The Frequency Squad band, for a live performance of “DAT BOI,” showcasing its soulful blend of contemporary R&B, Afrobeat and reggae.

“I wanted ‘DAT BOI’ to feel soulful, rhythmic and global. It’s rooted in my R&B background, while Afrobeat and reggae allowed me to take the music somewhere new.” — Vic G

The energy continued when E. Dee Dennis, a dancehall and Billboard recording artist, took the stage for a surprise live performance, adding another highlight to the celebration.

A highlight of the evening was the premiere of the “DAT BOI” cinematic vertical music video, directed and produced by Hadley. Created in a 9:16 format, the video combines cinematic imagery, movement, and performance. It is available on Hadley’s YouTube channel, @ZARIANH.

The single features Mr. Suprize and Binghi Canusee, who also appear in the video alongside Afrobeat choreographer Nksogorgeous. Her work has been featured in music videos for Davido, Wizkid, Cardi B, Chris Brown and Ciara.

The event also introduced “The Power of Support,” a micro-documentary series following the making of “DAT BOI” and the creative team behind it. The series is featured on Look at Zakanda, a vertical platform from Zakanda Entertainment for microdrama and micro-documentary content.

“Vertical filmmaking allows us to rethink how audiences experience music visually. With ‘DAT BOI,’ we paired that cinematic approach with a micro-doc to take viewers beyond the performance and into the people, emotion, and creative process behind the project.” — Zarian “King Z” Hadley

For Vic G, “DAT BOI” represents a new phase in his artistry. The Cincinnati native and former lead vocalist of III Frum Tha Soul has built his career on R&B, drawing from gospel and classic soul while blending those influences with Afrobeat and reggae. His career includes six victories at the legendary Apollo Theater in Harlem, along with recording credits with Gerald Levert, Angie Stone and Keith Sweat.

“DAT BOI” is available at GreenBoyMusic.com, Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube and other streaming platforms.
