“SONGS Music Publishing has announced a worldwide co-publishing agreement with the Weeknd, a.k.a. Abel Tesfaye. The deal encompasses both past and future releases, including the Weeknd’s upcoming sophomore album “Kiss Land” (Sept. 10 via Universal/XO) and last year’s certified-platinum triple album “Trilogy,” a compilation of his mixtapes “House of Balloons”, “Thursday”, and “Echoes of Silence”.
“At SONGS we invest in people and we invest in music,” wrote SONGS Founder and CEO, Matt Pincus, in a statement. “On both counts we couldn’t have done better than Abel. He could have signed anywhere and it’s a tremendous honor that he has chosen to make his home at SONGS.”
Adds SONGS president and head of A&R Ron Perry, who is responsible for the signing, “Abel is one of the most gifted writers, producers and vocalists to come along in recent memory. His music extends across all genres.”
In addition to the Weeknd, SONGS’ diverse roster — which has also been credited to Perry, who joined the company in 2004 — encompasses artists like Diplo, Nelly, Jose Gonzales, and Bright Eyes’ Conor Oberst. SONGS also maintains publishing stakes in songs including Kelly Clarkson’s “Catch My Breath” and Florida Georgia Line’s “Cruise” remix featuring Nelly.”
