Turner-Field-1024x768 Cobb County Braves: The Atlanta Braves Are Leaving Turner Field For A New Stadium

The marriage between the Atlanta Braves and Turner Field (the stadium they currently call home) is coming to a end. The Atlanta Braves have announced that they will be leaving Turner Field for a new state of the art $675 million dollar stadium in Cobb County in 2017 right near the intersection of I-75 and I-285 in the Galleria/Cumberland Mall area.

This news has many inner city Atlanta Braves fans in an uproar since the Braves have played in downtown Atlanta since the mid 1960s. The Braves played at Atlanta-Fulton County stadium from 1966-1996 when Tuner Field was built and they signed a 20 year lease with Turner Field that is up after the 2016 season. The new stadium the Braves are planning to build is in a suburban community approximately 20-25 miles north of Turner Field’s downtown location. Many inner city fans believe the Braves are looking to accommodate their “white” fan base by relocating from downtown Atlanta to an entirely different county and the Braves could be in danger of splitting their fan base.

Details are still being released by the Atlanta Braves so stay tuned to HHS1987 for more future details. Check out the photo below to get a better idea of where the Braves new stadium will be. The Photo is via AJC.com
