Bobby Shmurda and members of his GS9 crew were arrested almost two weeks ago. The rapper’s lawyer, Howard Greenberg, gave an update to The FADER on Bobby’s prison stay at Rikers Island, potential bail, why he thinks the NYPD went after Bobby, and more.
Shmurda was able to spend Christmas Eve with some of his family that could paid him a visit. Greenberg was on his way to Rikers Island while giving an update but was unable to see his client because another visitor was there.
Epic Records, the label that Bobby is signed to, said that they would put up the $2 million needed for bail. When Greenberg was asked what the update on that was he said, “There is no news. We’re just trying to put something else together now.”
“The government hates rap and the government hates rappers. They construct a narrative and add rationalizations to make it seem true,” said the lawyer when asked his opinion on why the NYPD arrested his client, “They recruit guiltless and loveless people to whom truth is meaningless and convince them to say what they want to say,” he added.
Greenberg also adds that he doesn’t doubt Bobby’s lyrics and videos will be called into evidence while the rapper is on trial as well as their social media activity. He ends the chat with, “I’m not going to let them crucify Bobby Shmurda.”
