Nineties r&b/hip-hop group TLC has over 20 years of music history, and they continue to break the mold with their most recent marketing strategy. For their final album, surviving members T-Boz and Chilli have joined together with Kickstarter, and set up a fan-funded campaign to pay for their album. The campaign ended on Feb.19, and has accumulated $430K with a total of 4,201 donations. The amazing thing about it is, they only had a $15K target. Katy Perry generously showed how big of a fan she was, with a $5K contribution. The group’s longtime producer Dallas Austin, has been slated to be apart of the project, as well as veteran producer Ron Fair who has signed on as an executive producer. TLC will be hitting the road with Nelly and New Kids On The Block in the Spring for a two-month tour, which kicks off in Vegas. The group hasn’t released any information on a title or release date, but die-hard fans are most definitely excited to know there is an album on the way.
As always, R.I.P. Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes.
