Even though we haven’t heard new music from Lil Wayne in a while – as we patiently wait for “Tha Carter V – the Young Money ringleader hasn’t been completely silent. Especially when it comes to certain topics. In a recent interview with The New York Times, Weezy drops his 2 Cents on new artists such as Lil Yachty, Chance The Rapper, Kodak Black & more, the Black Lives Matter movement and Donald Trump. To start, Weezy commended Chance the Rapper and Solange for being “the trendsetters of tomorrow,” and revealed that he actually pays attention to the music they send his way. “When I get the Solange or Chance song, I’m actually riding in my car, banging that,” he shared.

Can’t say the same for Lil Yachty, Lil Uzi Vert, 21 Savage and Kodak Black, however. When asked about his thoughts on them, Weezy replied, “I swear to God I didn’t know you were saying people’s names just now, so that should probably answer that question. I just do my thing.”

Can you say “lol?” Onto more serious matters though, this is what he had to say about Black Lives Matter: “I was on a sports show recently, and I was asked a question like that about black lives, or whatever. When we got off air, Shannon Sharpe commended me for answering the way I did. ‘You didn’t make something up just to make yourself one of us. And to make yourself a victim,’ she told me. And honestly, I don’t care. I care what’s going on with me and my family and my world and my mom and who’s going to pay this next bill. That’s what matters to me.

Ouch. That may not be what some Weezy fans want to hear from the veteran Rapper, but he is, at the end of the day, entitled to his own opinion. When asked about Donald Trump, he simply replied with a “who’s that?” Good one.

As for the long-awaited “Tha Carter V,” Weezy shared that the album is “done, sitting and wrapped as is.” He also revealed that he listened to the finished project for the first time, in a long while, and had forgotten his own words. But the body of work was still “so much better than everything” he’s “ever heard.” To read the full interview, make sure you head over to the New York Times!
