Brooklyn Bodega, and The Bodega Agency, hosted their 13th Annual Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival last week. The week-long festivities ended with their Finale Concert, right under the Brooklyn Bridge. The Saturday afternoon, under the sun, was filled with performances by Denzil Porter, Malik The Drummer, Oswin Benjamin, Oshun, Bob-bito Garcia, DJ Mr Ccee and more. The LOX took to the stage, bringing out Smif-N-Wessun, Lil Cease, Bristal (Junior Mafia), and moving the crowd with their classic hits, such as “Wild Out.” Also on the main bill was the dog himself, DMX.
Just 24 hours after his release from jail (for tax evasion charges), the X put on one helluva performance. His energy, magnetic as always, never dwindled throughout his set – as the crowd rapped along to every hit he had up his sleeve. Closing the concert was none other than legendary MC, Rakim. Not to be outdone by his fellow Hip Hop veterans, Rakim brought out special guests M.O.P. and Havoc – who performed “Shook Ones pt. II” in honor of Prodigy.
Hip Hop continues to thrive thanks to festivals like the BK Hip Hop Fest, that spotlight the culture’s elements and the genre’s pioneers, as well as its promising up-and-comers. ICYMI, check out @MariaMyraine’s recap below – shot by @BlakeSymphony of #byMBJ
