Harlem world stand up!
This past weekend, Dipset took over the legendary Apollo Theater on 125th St. to celebrate the release of their new album, “Diplomatic Ties.” The 9-track project dropped on Thanksgiving, igniting the iconic Harlem group’s return to music. It was only right that the Apollo hosted the group’s reunion concert: “We are committed to celebrating the legacy of Black music and its effect on popular culture. Dipset is a perfect example of a group that started here in harlem and made an impact on music that lasted decades,” shared Kamilah Forbes – Apollo’s executive producer.
The theater hosted a sold out crowd that came to represent not just for their beloved neighborhood, but for New York City Hip Hop. To warm the crowd up, the DJ played everything from classic Nas, Jay Z, and of course throwback Dipset, records.
The energy went up 1000% as Cam’ron, Jim Jones, Juelz Santana and Freeky Zekey took to the stage. Despite being a seated venue, the crowd could not keep themselves contained and were on their feet, edging closer and closer to the stage throughout the night.
Performing a medley of classic Dipset records, and their latest cuts off “Diplomatic Ties,” the Harlem legends kept the audience captivated as we rapped and nodded along to every song. The night took a surprising turn when Juelz Santana proposed to long-time girlfriend Kimbella on stage, as their entourage mobbed the stage.
It was truly a historic night for such a legendary brand in New York Hip Hop.
