Angel McCoughtry of the Atlanta Dream and Maya Moore of the Minnesota Lynx today were named the WNBA’s Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week, respectively, for games played June 18-24.

 

McCoughtry was selected Player of the Week for the 16th time in her nine seasons.  She averaged a WNBA-high 32.0 points per game and paced the league in minutes (35.2 mpg) last week as Atlanta went 1-1.  She was also first among Eastern Conference players in rebounding (11.0 rpg), sixth in free throw percentage (83.9, 26-of-31) and 10th in assists (3.0 apg).

 

The 6-1 forward/guard opened her week by scoring a career-high 39 points – including 19-of-22 at the free throw line – and tying her career best with 14 rebounds in a 79-72 loss at the New York Liberty on June 19.  She then registered 25 points, eight rebounds and two assists in a 75-70 home win over the Connecticut Sun on June 22.

 

For Moore, the Player of the Week honor is her 18th in eight seasons.  She led the Lynx to a 3-0 mark as Minnesota raised its winning streak to four games and improved to 7-6.  The 6-foot forward ranked second in the Western Conference in scoring (22.3 ppg) and tied for sixth in assists (4.3 apg).  She also ranked 11th in rebounding (5.3 rpg) and led the West in minutes (34.3 mpg).

 

Moore started the week with 21 points, seven assists and four rebounds in a 91-83 home win over the Dallas Wings on June 19.  She then finished with 23 points, six rebounds and five assists as Minnesota defeated the host Phoenix Mercury 83-72 on June 22.  Moore closed her week with a second straight 23-point effort and added six rebounds in an 88-73 victory at the Las Vegas Aces on June 24.
