The 2019-2020 NBA All-Star break is officially over and Thursday night gave Atlanta Hawks fans a chance to see them in action. The building was loud and full of excitement as the Hawks hosted the Miami Heat on what was “Quavo Night” at State Farm Arena.

 

To start the game both teams came out fresh looking ready for the final 25 games or so of the NBA regular season. Both teams shot 52% from the field and both teams were solid with the ball with three turn overs a piece. In the first quarter you could see that Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young could be set for a big night.
The Heat lead after the first quarter (36-32) but Trae Young was productive scoring. Young dropped 13 points in the opening quarter.

 

Both teams played with flare in the second quarter as well. The Hawks continued to shoot over 50% in the second half. Miami stayed hot from the field and took a (62-61) lead to halftime.

 

After Quavo’s artist Street Bud hit the stage for a halftime performance, it was time for NBA action again. Trae Young came out of the half looking to score and create. Young scored 6 straight points including a 4 point play and managed to put Heat guard Kendrick Nunn in foul trouble as he picked up his fifth foul with seven minutes remaining in the quarter.

 

The Heat stepped up their defensive effort in the third quarter and created a double digit lead over Atlanta. Despite the Hawks having a better tonight from the three point line and better shooting night from the field, the Heat led heading to the fourth quarter (97-90).

 

The 4th quarter at State Farm Arena was nothing short of electric. Hawks all-star Trae Young was on another level in the period. In the first four minutes of the fourth quarter, Trae Young was on fire scoring 14 points. All 14 points was clutch as the Hawks were able to take a one point (110-109) lead with under seven minutes to go.

 

With 4:14 remaining in the game, Hawks rookie De’Andre Hunter knocked down a big three pointer giving the Hawks a (116-115) lead getting Hawks fans out their seats. The rookies were huge in the clucth. De’Andre Hunter knocked down a three pointer to tie the game at (124-124) with under a minute to go. On the next Miami possession, Hawks rookie Cam Reddish picked up a steal and a slam dunk to give the Hawks a (126-124) lead with 31 seconds left in the game.

 

Trae Young would late knock down a pair of foul shots giving him 49 points tying his career high helping the Hawks pick up a (129-124) win over the Miami Heat.

 

This was a big win for Atlanta against one of the best teams in the NBA. Trae Young would go on to finished the night with 50 points including knocking down eight three pointers. Trae Young became the sixth player in Atlanta Hawks history to reach 50 points.

 

For the Hawks, Trae Young dropped 50 points, De’Andre Hunter & Kevin Huerter finished with 17 points. Cam Reddish added 16 points.

 

For the Miami Heat, the high scorer was Bam Adebayo with 28 points and 19 rebounds.
