Bubbling up out of the Windy City with an inimitable sound and intriguing story, 16-year-old vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, producer, and Chicago phenom Yung Divide drops his anxiously awaited debut mixtape Chi Kidd via Epic Records today.
The seven-track project illuminates the scope of his fiery four-dimensional style. The opener “Love Ain’t Free” rides an upbeat groove towards a chantable declaration as he reminds, “My love ain’t free!” Elsewhere, guitar wraps around 808s on the catchy and confessional “Losing It.” This trip concludes with the glassy eighties-style synths of “Secrets” where he urges, “Tell me all your darkest secrets,” before a shimmering instrumental bridge.
Divide set the stage for this collection with “Same” last month. Yung Divide’s D.I.Y. approach and organic style have already ignited an underground swell of attention from fans everywhere. Now, this Chi Kidd is on his way to the main stage.
He’s on track for a breakthrough year.
