In the labyrinthine landscape of Canada’s underground music scene, one name has been carving its path with raw talent and a unique blend of styles – Cult5ive. Born Julian A. Cult5ive in the heart of Calgary, Alberta, this 21-year-old professional rap and grunge rock artist has been making waves, defying genres, and leaving an indelible mark on listeners worldwide.
The Journey Begins:
Cult5ive’s journey into music started like many others, with a serendipitous encounter with a song that sparked a fire within him. “Bugatti” by Future served as his gateway into the world of rap, leading him down a rabbit hole of musical exploration that ultimately shaped his own sound. Influenced by the likes of Lil Uzi Vert, Future Pluto Hendrix, and others, Cult5ive began honing his craft, blending elements of emo rap, melodic rap, punk, grunge rock, and even dabbling in EDM.
The Creative Process:
What sets Cult5ive apart is his unconventional approach to creation. While many artists meticulously craft their lyrics, Cult5ive’s music is often born from freestyle sessions, capturing raw emotion and authenticity in every track. Whether it’s a one-take freestyle or a polished production, his music resonates with listeners on a visceral level, transcending boundaries and genres.
Dream Collaborations:
For Cult5ive, collaboration is more than just a musical endeavor – it’s an opportunity to connect with fellow artists and push creative boundaries. From contemporary icons like Ski Mask The Slump God and Trippie Redd to legendary figures like Prince and Jim Morrison, his dream collaborators span generations and genres, reflecting his eclectic tastes and boundless ambition.
Impact of the Internet:
I can’t speak on everything, but from what I’ve seen I agree with what some major artists are saying about how music from all Genres feels more watered down now adays, it’s all copy and pasted but that’s not to state for everyone, there’s truly pockets of creativity and people who are waiting to get the chance to speak publicly about themselves that truly deserve the spotlight like “Perrymaysun” & “DinaAyada” who have put real work and craft into their art, to be speaking on someone other than myself;
I’m also not a big fan of Internet beef and when it takes the stage in a way that outshines actual music and the progress other artists are making, causing a washout of mindless banter towards something that truly doesn’t matter, I’d like to see more underground artists getting the chance to be shown more publicly not to speak on myself only but everyone who’s gaining traction in some way ya know? I feel like BILLBOARD, Genius, GQ, man even Forbes, are all focused on a place where who’s popping matters more than who’s actually around, like we get it, their famous, and y’all are big press doing y’all’s thing, but it’s all for the wrong reason, no one truly cares what clothes ya got on, what new dog you own, what car you drive, and it sucks to see what proper attention is being lost in that aspect, even here mfs not going to be reading all this and I understand that but it still matters to speak on.
Admiration for Fellow Artists:
Despite his rising status, Cult5ive remains grounded, viewing his peers as equals rather than idols to be worshipped. From classical composers like Bach and Mozart to contemporary icons like Kendrick Lamar and Billie Eilish, he draws inspiration from a diverse array of artists, recognizing the value of each individual’s unique contributions to the musical landscape.
