A Philadelphia City Councilman wants to regulate bars and clubs that rent their facilities to promoters. City Councilman Bill Greenlee says his bill is designed to control unruly crowds that come to parties and events at Philadelphia bars and clubs run by private promoters.
“There have been fights – some violent – a lot of just general crowd control issues noise that kind of thing,” says Greenlee. “There doesn’t appear to be a lot of control over some of these events at all.”
“We’ve gotten complaints from the communities and also from folks in Center City. There have been events at the Comcast Center afterwards there were crowd-control issues.”
The bill would make sure a promoter has a business license and make their plans available 30 days before an event. Those outlines would have to include crowd control and noise abatement plans. Councilman Greenlee says the paperwork would have to be clear who is ultimately responsible.
