Despite making major breakthroughs in the last year, Cardi B and Post Malone are reportedly ineligible to compete for Best New Artist at the 2019 Grammy Awards.
But why, you ask?
Well, in Cardi B’s case, she earned two nominations at this year’s Grammys back in February which makes her ineligible. “Any artist with a previous Grammy nomination as a performer do no qualify,” according to the academy. As for Post, he was also submitted for a best new artist nomination but didn’t get any votes. Some felt that Post’s 2016 debut and previous hit singles such as “White Iverson” released in 2015 disqualifies him because he’s past “new artist” status.
