As a longtime fixture in the Underground Rap scene with the talent to match, Q-Unique of the Arsonists has been witness to historical moments in Hip-Hop. And thanks to his gift with words, we get to see bits of that same history in his great new video for “I Seen.”
The DJ Matvey-produced track, which stems from Q’s latest LP, The Mechanic, finds the Brooklyn native at perhaps his most immediate as he chronicles the amazing things he’s been party to over the years. From watching Paul Rosenberg put Eminem’s Slim Shady EP on consignment to bearing witness to A Tribe Called Quest recording “Lyrics to Go,” there’s so much to take in with “I Seen” that you’ll no doubt want to enjoy repeated viewings.
Director JP Brasca makes that decision easy, of course, as he puts Q’s storytelling front and center for these visuals. The emcee dives into his career with a clear affinity for the culture he’s helped maintain, and it creates an atmosphere of not only nostalgia but affection for Hip-Hop as we know it.
