Every once in a while someone comes along and gives hope to the hopeless and inspiration to the uninspired; for the 757 area of Virginia that someone is Terrion Jones BKA Young Money Yawn. Raised in Norfolk, referred to as Shark City by those who reside there, in a little over a year the local street legend transitioned from a young entrepreneur into a rising rap icon. Passed the ceremonial torch by critically acclaimed Clipse member and successor Pusha T, Yawn is next in the natural order of Hip-Hop royalty from the Commonwealth state.
Fueled by undeniable cuts like “Yayo”, “Where Da Waitress”, “Shot Callers” and the radio smash hit “Gutta Gutta”, on February 7th, 2014 he dropped the DJ Punisha hosted Lost Scriptures project. Compiled of 18 hard hitting remixes and original tracks, not including bonus records, the mixtape also featured guest verses from Board Of Administration recording artist Black CobainYoung Crazy,Regular RellWild Boy 100 and Morgan Fuller.
Amassing 30K album streams in just under 2 weeks, Yawn showed critics and fans alike that he is more than just a one hit wonder or the product of a co-sign. As revealed in recent interviews with Karen CivilNoisey and MissInfo.tv, in less than a year the young entrepreneur has proven to be a prime example of what happens when hard work and opportunity meet. A new wave of rap authorities is on the rise and Yawn is securing a spot at the top of the list.
Last week, surrounded by close friends, family and his Creative Nation team, Yawn officially signed his with RCA Records via Grammy nominated songwriter/producer Dr. Luke‘s Kemosabe Ent. imprint. Luke, who’s responsible for Billboard hits from the likes of B.o.B, Miley Cyrus, Nicki Minaj, Juicy J, Rihanna, Shakira and Katy Perry, has been working closely with Yawn for the last few months and plans on playing a vital roll in his promising career. Following the success of his current radio rotated hits “Dark Horse” (Katy Perry Ft. Juicy J), “Wrecking Ball” (Miley Cyrus) and “Timber” (Pitbull), Yawn will be joining the list of priorities for Luke including upcoming releases from UsherG.R.L. and Hilary Duff.
Running on the heels on his well received visual over the Migos “Hannah Montana”, the next single he will release is entitled “Shout Out To Papi”. The record features mentor Pusha T & Lunch Money, samples the theme song to popular 50’s sitcom I Love Lucy and was produced by Hunga .We wish nothing but success and stability for The Re-Up Gang affiliate rapper!
