In the latest episode of Complex’s Sneaker Shopping, now its 20th season, DJ Khaled goes Sneaker Shopping with Complex’s Joe La Puma at the We The Best Snipes superstore in Miami Beach, and talks about opening his own sneaker store, having 1 of 1 Air Jordans, and almost having to fight Fat Joe over $25,000 sneakers.
On opening his own sneaker store in Miami after growing up working in Champs and putting mixtapes in the sneakers: “When I opened this store, it took me five years to open…and I collaborated with Snipes. This store is for the community, for the city, for the beach, for everyone that flies in out of town to witness Miami greatness…it’s about giving.”
On what he’d tell his younger self: “What I would tell that kid, man I’m proud of you. Because in this game you gotta stay focused. And that kid is focused…Now I’m a father and I get to be able to raise my kids, and my mother and father raised me so well that I took that greatest and now I’m raising my kids Asahd and Aalam, which they’re big sneakerheads now.”
